Who We Are: The Story of Joe’s Custom Lawn

It’s hard to believe, but this year we celebrated ten years in business! We thought there was no better way to kick off our blogging journey than by sharing a little bit of our backstory—where we came from, who we are today, and what makes Joe’s Custom Lawn more than “just another lawn company.”
Humble Beginnings
Joe’s Custom Lawn was officially founded in July 2015, but the seeds were planted even earlier. At the time, we were simply trying to make ends meet—Kasie was in her first year of teaching, and Ryan was working at his family’s independent insurance office while cutting lawns on the side. We needed an LLC for a house cleaning side hustle, so we decided to create one with a name that could someday grow into something bigger.
That name—Joe’s Custom Lawn—has its own story. Most people assume it came from Ryan’s first name (Joseph), but that’s not the case at all. Instead, it was inspired by the classic comedy Dodgeball. If you’ve ever seen Average Joe’s Gym, you can probably picture the vibe Ryan was going for with our logo and branding. He never wanted to be just another “Coastal” lawn company—too common, too expected. Instead, he wanted something fun, a little different, and a lot more memorable.
And because what we do is far from average, we landed on Custom lawn care. From that moment, Joe’s Custom Lawn was born.
Growing Into Our Passion
What started as a simple maintenance business soon grew into much more. Over the years, Ryan discovered his true passion: landscape design. As a natural creative, landscaping gave him the opportunity to bring his vision to life—and that passion became the fuel that pushed our company forward.
Today, Joe’s Custom Lawn offers everything from weekly lawn maintenance to large-scale design and build projects. Some of our proudest work includes residential makeovers as well as incredible commercial installations like The Overlook in Port St. Joe. Seeing our community transformed through landscaping is something we’ll never take for granted.
Always Learning, Always Improving
One thing that has defined our journey is a commitment to growth—both personally and professionally. Ryan and Kasie are constantly attending industry events, learning from other leaders, and finding new ways to raise the bar. Our goal is simple:

We’re passionate about what we do, and while we’re not perfect, we believe in continuous improvement—for ourselves, for our clients, and for the people who make up the Joe’s team.
More Than a Company—We’re a Family
Beyond the business, we’re also a family. Over the past 14 years, we’ve built a life we’re proud of, raising three amazing kids who keep us grounded, inspired, and laughing every single day.
- William (10, almost 11): Loves soccer, fishing, and gaming.
- Ariella (9): Our dancer and violinist.
- Jacob (5): Our wild, fearless adventurer (affectionately nicknamed “Donnie” from The Wild Thornberries).
Family is at the heart of everything we do. It’s why we work so hard, and it’s why we care so deeply about creating a business that not only serves our clients but also builds a better future for our employees and community.

As we celebrate a decade in business, we know this is only the beginning. Joe’s Custom Lawn is more than a lawn and landscape company—it’s a story of resilience, creativity, growth, and heart.
